Our blog or website must have meta tags code so that it is quickly indexed by search engines, especially Google.
Meta tags are a kind of "identifier" or the identity of a blog. With the meta tags, according to search engine optimization experts or Search Engine Optimization ( SEO ), our blog will be quickly recognized and indexed by Google.
Understanding Meta Tags
What are meta tags?
According to Site Ground , meta tags are a very important part of the HTML code on a website page (blog).
Meta tags are read, recognized, by search engines, such as Google, but are not displayed as part of the web page design.
Usually, meta tags include a summary of the contents of a web page (blog) and we must include relevant keywords in it.
Meta tags are generally placed in the "header" code in Blogger blog templates as well as WordPress themes, namely between the <head> ... </head> code.
Meta Element Tags
- Meta tags consist of Title, Keywords, and Description
- Title is the title or the name of the blog. For example: Romeltea blog. This Meta Title Tag can be optimized.
- Keywords are keywords. Lately Google has ignored it.
- Description is a description or description of the blog/website, for example "blog about blogging, SEO, and online business".
Thus, the most important tags are the title and description.
Blogger has provided the columns in the Settings > Basic > Description and Settings > Meta Tags section .
How to Optimize Meta Tags
The title tag (title tag), meta description, and keywords must include keywords that are relevant or in accordance with the content (content) of the blog being described.
In addition, we can not arbitrarily arrange keywords, because there are rules about the maximum limit of words and characters for each meta tag.
Please note, search engine robots read our blog from left to right and the words at the beginning of the sentence are the most important part compared to the end of the manuscript.
Title tags
The first part of the meta tags is the title tags, namely the name of the blog. The blog name can be different from the URL.
For example, the URL is www.blogromeltea.blogspot.com, but the blog name (title) becomes "Communication and Journalism Blog".
Position title tags are at the top before Descrption and Keywords. Title tags must be placed inside the <head> section.
The title or name of this blog will later appear in the "search engine results page" --Search Engines Result Page (SERP).
Title tags should be between 10-60 characters long. Search engines will ignore title tags that are longer than 60 characters.
Meta Description tags
"The description tag should be written in such a way that it will show what information your website contains or what your website is about. Write short and clear sentences that will not confuse your visitors."
That's Google's guide.
This is the second most important part of the meta tags. The contents of the description tag describe the content or content of the website (blog) as a whole. For example, "A blog about communication and journalism. Your online guide to improving communication skills, journalism, blogging and other communication skills."
Meta description should not be more than 200 characters. The meta description tag must also contain the most important part for our blog's SEO optimization.
This blog description will distinguish our blog from other blogs. In this section the differentiator as well as the identity of the blog. If there is something similar, even the same, well... that's okay, just compete in a healthy way...!
Meta Keywords tags
The third most important part of the meta tags is the meta keyword tag, namely keywords which are "derivatives" of Title Tags and Description Tags, such as "communication, journalism, blogging, communication skills, speech techniques" and so on.
Most SEO experts ignore keywords because the "say" is currently no longer being cared for by search engines, especially by Google.
The reason is that many SEO experts or bloggers are "naughty" by including as many keywords as possible, even keywords that are completely irrelevant to the contents of their blog.
Keyword tags should be between 4-10 keywords only. No less than 4 and no more than 10 words. Key words are separated by commas (,) --such as "keyword1, keyword2, keyword3, ...".
Every keyword that is written must be in the blog content. If not, our blog will be ignored by search engines, even subject to "punishment".
"Each word in this tag will appear somewhere in the body, or you may be penalized for being irrelevant. Not a single word appears more than twice, or could be considered spam."
Meta Robots tags
These tags help us define how the blog is crawled by search engines. There are four types of Meta Robots Tags:
- Index, Follow - The search engine robots will start crawling your website from the main/index page and then will continue to the rest of the pages.
- Index, NoFollow - The search engine robots will start crawling your website from the main/index page and then will NOT continue to the rest of the pages.
- NoIndex, Follow - The search engine robots will skip the main/index page, but will crawl the rest of the pages.
- NoIndex, NoFollow - None of your pages will be crawled by the robot and your website will not be indexes by the search engines.
